…Gesti, which Feisst rightly describes as "a classic in contemporary recorder literature", is indeed a fantastic concoction of instrument and voice interpreted with furious enthusiasm by Lucia Mense…

(Luciano Berio -THE COMPLETE SEQUENZAS, ALTERNATE SEQUENZAS & WORKS FOR SOLO INSTRUMENTS, Mode Records/ New York)

The Cologne-based recorder player Lucia Mense played both solo parts in Giuseppe Sammartini’s “Concerto F-Major as well as Antonio Vivaldi’s “Concerto in C-Major” with breath-taking Tempi. It was an overwhelming experience. Presence and concentration of the orchestra as well as the soloist was sustained until the last minute.... the Largo in Vivaldi’s Concerto was tender and rich in ambient.

Dance, folk songs, dramatic music, operatic music, drinking songs and courtly music resulted in a colorful mixture of well-intoned sounds.

(Rheinzeitung, 10.9.2004, Konzert mit Sören Leupold/ Laute)

Before a sold-out audience in the Ritter-Hall this ensemble presented an unusual program of music on original instruments or copies thereof and drew in the audience though their dedication and love of the music, ones which were in abundance through their delivery. They thrilled the listeners with their perfection. Lucia Mense guided the audience masterly through the program with brief explanatory notes to the individual compositions, as well as descriptions of the instruments performed and their history.

(Rheinische Post vom 2.2.04, 4. Schlosskonzert im Rittersaal Schloss Rheydt mit Canzoni Cölln)

With the support of electronics, Lucia Mense drew rather astounding sounds from her recorders. Quite an experience to witness this type of technically difficult playing, as well the rich variety of presentation, one with an abundance of physical engagement as well..... A completely successful contemporary music concert with unbelievable mastery and dedication by the musician.
